Privacy policy.

What we collect, what we don't, your rights.

This Privacy Policy explains what data MyGreenCard collects, how we use it, and what rights you have. We've written it to match what the site actually does today. Last updated: May 26, 2026.

Data we collect

From all visitors

  • IP address (used for security and rough, country-level location; not used to identify you personally)
  • Browser type and version
  • Pages visited and referral source
  • Approximate location (country and region only)

From account holders (optional)

An account is entirely optional — everything on the site is free to use without one. If you do create an account, we collect:

  • Email address
  • Name (as provided)
  • Password (hashed via our authentication provider, never stored by us in plaintext)
  • Country of birth (only if you choose to provide it)
  • Saved tool calculations (only the ones you choose to save)

From the eligibility quiz

Your quiz answers stay in your browser. They are only sent to us if you explicitly choose to have a copy of your results emailed to you. We do not run an attorney-matching service, and we do not forward your quiz answers to any third party.

From newsletter subscribers

If you subscribe, we collect your email address to send the newsletter. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email.

How we use data

  • Provide the site — show you content, keep your (optional) account, and deliver the newsletter if you subscribe
  • Improve content — aggregate, non-identifying analytics on which guides are useful
  • Keep the site secure — detect and prevent abuse, spam, and fraud
  • Fund the site — show advertising (see Cookies and Third-party services below)
  • Comply with the law — respond to valid legal requests

What we do NOT do with data

  • We do not sell your personal data to advertisers, marketers, or anyone else
  • We do not use your immigration-related answers for targeted advertising
  • We do not provide data to immigration enforcement agencies absent valid legal process

Cookies

  • Essential cookies: Language preference, theme preference, and (if you have one) your login session. Required for the site to function.
  • Analytics cookies: Aggregate visit data, if enabled. Opt out via the cookie banner.
  • Advertising cookies: Used by Google AdSense to fund the site. Opt out via the cookie banner.

Third-party services

We rely on a small number of third-party providers, each with its own privacy policy governing the data it receives:

  • Google AdSense — advertising, behind cookie consent
  • Google Analytics — optional aggregate analytics, behind cookie consent
  • Google Translate — used to offer the site's content in additional languages
  • Our hosting and authentication providers — to serve the site and (if you create one) manage your account
  • Our email/newsletter provider — to deliver the newsletter if you subscribe
